Why Our Intentional Community?

Walker Center offers intentional community for graduate students studying in the greater Boston area, enrolled in programs related to theology, religion, peace and justice work, and/or the social sciences.

Our flagship program is the Barton Community, which participates in the Interreligious Learning and Leadership Program, in partnership with the Miller Center for Interreligious Learning and Leadership. We also host the Green House, a residential community in partnership with the Boston University School of Theology that focuses on sustainable living practices.

The purpose of the Barton Community is to provide a place of intentional interreligious community, where graduate student residents learn and grow together in religious literacy, leadership practices, and personal character.

The hope is that residents will together grow in heart, mind, and spirit, and go on from their coursework to promote interreligious community, awareness, and partnerships in whatever contexts they might live. In so doing, they will contribute to a world that is more connected, more compassionate, and more whole.

How to Apply

Barton Community Admission
Students interested in living at Barton Community should first complete the Housing Inquiry Form. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Interim Executive Director Gayle Turner at director@walkerctr.org. If there is availability, you will be asked to complete the official application, which includes sending a personal statement and sending two personal/professional letters of reference to our Admissions Review Board.

Although we prefer to admit students for the full duration of their course of study, we understand that circumstances change. If there is room availability, we will accept applications on a rolling basis.
