Why Our Intentional Community?
Walker Center offers intentional community for graduate students studying in the greater Boston area, enrolled in programs related to theology, religion, peace and justice work, and/or the social sciences.
Our flagship program is the Barton Community, which participates in the Interfaith Learning and Leadership Program, in partnership with the Miller Center for Interreligious Learning and Leadership and Boston University School of Theology.
The purpose of the Barton Community is to provide a place of intentional interreligious community, where graduate student residents learn and grow together in religious literacy, leadership practices, and personal character.
The hope is that residents will together grow in heart, mind, and spirit, and go on from their coursework to promote interreligious community, awareness, and partnerships in whatever contexts they might live. In so doing, they will contribute to a world that is more connected, more compassionate, and more whole.
